Last week it snowed in Stockholm. Can you believe it snowed this early? Yep everyone was a twitter about the event and hoping that this isn't the first signs of a very long winter. I'm happy to report that the snow melted quickly and that there are still colored leaves on the trees. So to help this big thaw along, I thought I would still share a moment from our summer on Gotland.
For a treat, I decided to take my 11 year old son to Max. For those of you not from or in Sweden, the best way to describe Max is like the Swedish McDonalds. My son will tell you that it's much much better.
It wasn't only the food that got his attention but the recycling. In the States, depending on what State you live in, recycling is pretty much a volunteer sort of thing and then it's only some sorts of paper and glass. So for my son to see extensive recycling in a fast food restaurant inspired him to think about encouraging the same changes in our little city in Tennessee.
In these bins you put anything which can be composted and the next one means anything which can be combustible. These are the bins outside the building but inside they have this neat little recycling line starting with dumping the liquid from your cup and moving on from there. "O" kept asking me to go to Max for the entire trip not so much to eat the food but to do the recycling.
All of us here at LearnSweden love to cook and eat, so once in a blue moon it's fun to go to Max, have a Swedish burger, and recycle.
