~June 1776 Powell House~
The day is warm. The morning holds a heaviness in the air. Nonetheless we head out to the gardens to see what will be for eating this day.
While the oxen start their plowing,
The rest of us head to the kitchen to prepare our meal.
We place a chicken to rotate.
Stuff cucumbers to braise.
Prepare beans and greens for our salad.
Our young boy, just in from field training, takes to rolling corn cake balls.
Everyone busily working, laughing, talking.
It is our daily doing for this our daily bread.
